Newport businesses deserve
better than an afterthought.

Newport sits in the shadow of Cardiff for most agencies: close enough to bill, far enough to ignore. I treat Newport clients the way I treat the ones round the corner.

The businesses I hear from in Newport usually tell the same story. The website was built years ago by someone who has since vanished, the emails occasionally land in spam, and nobody is quite sure who controls the domain. Untangling exactly that mess is a normal week for me, and it is more common than anyone admits.

I will tell you plainly what you own, what needs fixing and what it costs. A new site is £650 and goes live in five working days. Email security that stops anyone impersonating your business is £175. No retainer, no contract, and you keep control of everything I set up, including the domain and the logins.

The domain question is the one that catches people out. I have found Newport businesses whose web address was registered to a developer who has since closed down, and in one case to a former employee who left in 2019. Until that is in your name you do not really own your own address, and finding out during an emergency is the worst possible time.

Newport also has a lot of firms trading well on relationships built over decades, where the website is genuinely an afterthought and everyone knows it. That is fine until the person who made all those relationships wants to retire, or a competitor turns up who is easy to find online. A site will not replace thirty years of reputation, but it should stop you losing work to someone with less of it.

If you have inherited something broken and half-documented, that is not an embarrassing position to be in. It is the normal one. I would rather start there honestly than pretend the last ten years did not happen.

What it costs in Newport. Fixed, agreed up front.

Fixed prices, agreed before I start. If the job turns out to be smaller than expected, the price comes down rather than staying put.

What Newport clients ask me.

Nobody knows who controls our domain. Can you sort it?

Yes, and it is one of the more common jobs I do. I can trace who a domain is registered to, work out what access exists, and go through the recovery process with the registrar. Usually it is recoverable. Occasionally it is not, and then we register a clean one and redirect properly. Either way you end up owning it.

Our emails keep going to spam. Is that the website?

Almost never the website itself. It is nearly always missing email authentication, meaning SPF, DKIM and DMARC records that tell the world which servers are allowed to send as you. Without them your mail looks suspicious and anyone can spoof your address. That is the £175 job and it usually takes about an hour.

Will you disappear like the last person did?

A fair worry given what you have been through. Two things make it less painful if I ever do. Everything is registered in your name, not mine, so you can hand it to anyone. And I build on standard tools rather than something only I understand, so the next person can pick it up without starting again. Being replaceable is deliberate.
