Newport deserves IT support
that actually turns up.

Small Newport firms tell me the same story: the old IT contact vanished, nobody knows the passwords, and the email has been temperamental for a year. I untangle that.

A lot of Newport businesses inherit their IT the way they inherit the kettle. It was here when they arrived, nobody set it up on purpose, and nobody is responsible for it now. That is fine right up until email stops, a laptop dies, or someone starts sending invoices that look convincingly like yours.

I start by mapping what you actually have: accounts, licences, domain, backups. Then I put it in your name, fix what is broken at a fixed price, and keep it running for £35 per person a month if you want the day-to-day handled. Everything documented, everything owned by you.

Invoice fraud is the one I would most like Newport firms to take seriously, because it is cheap to prevent and expensive to survive. Without SPF, DKIM and DMARC on your domain, anyone can send email that appears to come from you, and the version that lands on your customers asks them to pay a real invoice into a different account. The fix is about an hour of work and £175. The alternative is a conversation with a customer about money that has gone.

The passwords problem is worth saying out loud too, because people are embarrassed by it and should not be. I regularly find businesses where the only administrator account belongs to someone who left years ago, or where the shared password is written inside a drawer. It is recoverable more often than not, and the recovery is far easier before the emergency rather than during one.

Inheriting something broken and half-documented is the normal position, not an embarrassing one. I would rather start there honestly than pretend the last ten years did not happen.

What it costs in Newport. Fixed, agreed up front.

Fixed prices agreed before I start. If the untangling turns out smaller than feared, the price comes down rather than staying where it was quoted.

What Newport clients ask me.

Nobody here knows the admin passwords. Is that recoverable?

Usually, yes. Microsoft, domain registrars and most providers have ownership recovery processes, and I have taken plenty of businesses through them. It needs evidence that you are who you say you are, which is easier while the business is trading normally than during a crisis. Occasionally an account is genuinely lost and we rebuild cleanly instead, which is inconvenient rather than fatal.

Someone sent invoices pretending to be us. How do we stop it?

Email authentication on your domain, meaning SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured properly. Those records tell every receiving mail server which senders are legitimately you, so forgeries get rejected instead of delivered. It is £175 and roughly an hour of work, and it is the single highest-value security job most small firms can do.

Can you take over from our current provider without downtime?

That is the aim and it is usually achievable. I map everything first, agree a cutover plan with you, and move in stages so there is a working fallback at each step. Where the outgoing provider is cooperative it is straightforward. Where they are not, it takes longer but still works, and I will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
